Beloved Austin singer-songwriter Andrea Magee is sharing her time and talent to help children who’ve suffered abuse and neglect. Through her new nonprofit, musichelpsatx.org the former school teacher is holding monthly concerts, featuring local musicians, and mentoring young people at Helping Hand Home through music.
Magee moved to Austin in 2015 from her home in Ireland to pursue a career in music. Now, she has merged her passions for performing and teaching. Music Helps ATX uses outreach programs that incorporate the healing and enrichment power of music. Magee says, "We believe in the healing properties of music. Through music we can heal ourselves and those around us."
The other part of her mission at Music Helps ATX is giving a boost to women in the music business with career advice and teaching leadership skills. Here's more on her two-fold mission at Music Helps ATX:
Music Helps Trauma
Music Helps ATX partners with Helping Hand Home in Austin to offer a music outreach and enrichment program for the children and staff of the home. This program provides monthly concerts coupled with a six-week creative mentoring program. The goal is healing through music for those suffering from trauma while offering employment opportunities for local musicians.
Music Helps Women Music Helps Women provides an artistic development program to encourage women in leadership roles within the music industry—nurturing female artists to achieve their potential and fulfill their purpose in music and beyond. The goal is to provide unique and individual career plans for each female artist that are realistic and create longevity in their music careers.
